FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY EVALUATION
This 4-6 hour, clinic based evaluation assesses the employees potential to perform a specific job, whether they are currently in work or absent. It can determine their suitability to perform their current role or a specific alternative role.
The process addresses a range of factors that can interact to influence an employee’s ability to work – independence in daily functioning, physical capacities, the psychosocial factors that can affect an employee’s ability to manage their medical condition. The evaluation produces a report with conclusions as well as recommendations for actions to support the employees in the workplace.
JOBSITE EVALUATION
This 2-3 hour evaluation assesses the employees work environment to make recommendations to help them manage an existing medical condition in the workplace.
This involves a visit to the workplace to record the characteristics of the job i.e. loads handled and frequencies, postures adopted, equipment operated and tools handled. This allows the physical demands of the job to be compared to their current abilities and for recommendations to be made for appropriate modifications or actions to be taken. The evaluation produces a report with recommendations for actions to support the employees in the workplace.
ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING (ADL) EVALUATION
Although the main focus of the Occupational Therapy service for SALUS is work, other areas of life such as abilities to carry out day to day activities within and out-with the home will be addressed as often these issues can have an impact on an employee's ability to perform their work.
The Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Evaluation involves an initial assessment lasting up to one and a half hours. This is followed by up to four sessions, lasting no more than an hour each. The Occupational Therapist can work with the employee to support the work role. This can be for employees who are in the initial stages of absence from work to initiate progress towards return to work through addressing and resolving delays and barriers to recovery, or individuals who are still at work, but experiencing difficulties due to ongoing health problems.
